Microbeads

have already entered our waterways since you opened this page. ( )

What are Microbeads?

Microbeads are tiny peices of plastic found in some face and body scrubs, toothpastes and other cosmetics products.

They're designed to wash down your drain and out into rivers, lakes, and oceans, where they're impossible to recover and pose a serious threat to marine life.

What about the microbead ban?

The US recently passed the Microbead Free Waters Act which will ban companies from making and selling products containing microbeads. It's a great step forward, but there are still remaining until the law goes into effect in early 2018.

Why we can't wait.

We're dumping over 8 Billion microbeads per day into our waterways. Do the math and you'll see that's a ridiculous amount of plastic pollution even before the law goes into effect. And that's just in the US. Some scientists estimate that there may be more plastic than fish in our oceans if we don't take action soon!
